TODAY’S MESSAGE

The son of promise finally arrived after decades of waiting. The joy was so much—they named their son Isaac, which means laughter. Looking over the decades before Isaac’s birth, we see Abraham and Sarah’s journey is far from perfect. They were two flawed human beings struggling to trust that God would come through as the promise-making and promise-keeping God he claimed to be. Although it didn’t always look like it to Abraham and Sarah, God’s plan was right on time all along.

After Isaac’s birth, Abraham and Sarah respond with obedience and praise. It’s a pretty natural reaction to seeing God’s faithfulness, mercy and grace. For Abraham and Sarah, trust on the other side of waiting looked like obedience and praise.

There is a lot we can learn from this story. In our waiting, even when God comes through for us, we may be tempted to think he moved too slowly along the way. Could it be that God is reliable even in these times? If this is true, then we don’t have to wait until God “comes through” to obey and praise him. Whether we are in a season of waiting or not, this story challenges us to obedience and praise.
