TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Genesis 22:1-2

Read: Genesis 22:1-14

Listen: Genesis 22

TODAY’S MESSAGE

We see the conclusion of Abraham’s journey to trust God in today’s verses. His trust culminates in a great test. After decades of waiting for the promised son, God asks Abraham to trust him with Isaac’s life. Abraham’s servant-like reply, “Here I am,” demonstrates incredible growth in his relationship with God. Abraham will do whatever God asks, even if he doesn’t fully understand the request yet.

Devout hearts read this passage and ask, “Lord, what do you want from me?” Skeptics scoff, “What kind of God would ask such a thing—the sacrifice of your child?” God reveals exactly what kind of God he is. He is not one who demands we pay a horrible price to appease him. Instead, he is a God who provides the sacrifice for us in his own miraculous way.

In our journey to trust, we can learn to respond as Abraham. We can choose to trust God and his word when faced with confusing and challenging situations. God will grow our trust in him as we respond with willing obedience.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Take a moment to pray and let God know you are available and ready to follow him. Like Abraham, maybe use these words, “Here I am. I trust you for whatever you have for me this week and for the rest of my life.”
