TODAY’S MESSAGE

This week we have taken a look at the last week of Jesus’ earthly life. When you know you are going to die, you want to make sure the last things you say are significant enough to be remembered. Some of Jesus’ last words to his disciples are surprising and sobering.

Instead of telling them how to run a ministry or giving a strategy on sharing the Gospel, Jesus uses some alarming words and phrases such as servant, slave and give his life. In Matthew 20:25-28, Jesus puts serving each other in humility at the top of the list over status, comfort and even respect.

Jesus’ words are inspiring, but doing them is another issue. Is Jesus saying when I get home from work, I should help my wife get the dinner and kids to the table? Yes. Is he saying when my work team sits down to a meeting, I should offer to get coffee even if I’m the leader? Yes. Is he saying when my roommate is sick, I should offer to take her to the immediate care center and pick up some meds? Yes. Unconditional serving is following Jesus’ example.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

What is Jesus saying to you? Spend some time in prayer today asking God to help you be a willing and humble servant no matter who or what is involved.
