TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 2 Corinthians 4:17

Read: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Listen: 2 Corinthians 4

TODAY’S MESSAGE

As each day presents disorienting changes to our way of life, Paul urges us to remember that eternity outweighs the heaviest of our situations. We shouldn’t deny the pain or the fact that life is hard. But an eternal perspective helps us see these challenges as light. When faced with all of history, we can remember, “This ain’t that.”

Scripture shares the suffering of many individuals. Abraham waited decades for a promised son. Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. The Israelites worked as slaves for hundreds of years in harsh conditions. Jesus’ close friend betrayed him. Paul was repeatedly beaten and imprisoned. We join countless others across the ages and even Christ himself. “We are not alone.” God is with us in this. Watch this video clip as Pastor Jeff Manion explains the commonality of our struggles.

Things don’t tend to last forever. Abraham eventually received the promised son. God delivered the Israelites from slavery. Jesus was raised from death. But God’s timetable isn’t always as fast as we would like. As situations drag on, it is helpful to remember, “This will pass.” It may not pass as soon as we would hope, but nothing lasts forever.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Ask God to give you his perspective today. Recite this prayer whenever you feel your heart growing anxious or hopeless. “Father, thank you for the hope we have through Jesus Christ. Help me remember these troubles are light and momentary. I believe you’re working your eternal glory, even in this. Amen.”
