TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

But they didn’t believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.” Luke 24:11-12

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus’ followers did not see the resurrection coming. The disciples simply did not believe it when the women ran to tell about the empty tomb. Looking back, Jesus had clearly told them this would happen. Jesus saw this coming from the beginning, while carrying his cross, and during the crucifixion. Jesus knew he would have to endure intense pain, ridicule, death and abandonment. He also knew that wasn’t the end of the story.

He faced all of this for us because he loves us. He suffered pain and punishment, so we wouldn’t have to. He faced ridicule, so we could be called sons and daughters of God. He faced death, so we could have life. He faced abandonment, so we could have a relationship with God.

When we reflect on all that Jesus suffered on our behalf, we should want to respond with worship, praise and faith. For some of us, the proper response may be to worship and praise him for what he has done for us. For others, the appropriate response is to repent and place our faith in Jesus. For all of us, the truth of Jesus’ death and resurrection on our behalf requires a response.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Spend a few minutes and consider what your response will be. If you have not placed your faith in Jesus, email us at btw@adabible.org to start a conversation. If you have already done this, then listen to In Christ Alone and worship him this morning. Finally, if you’ve walked away from Jesus, now is a good time to respond by following him again.
