TODAY’S MESSAGE

King Solomon knew that friends tend to rub off on each other. In today’s reading for The Wisdom Challenge, he urged his sons to set their hearts on the right path and not join those whose behaviors involved too much drinking or gorging on food. Solomon knew the behaviors of those we associate with influence us to become more like them (Proverbs 23:19-21).

The same is true for us today. We become like the people we follow online, listen to and spend time with. Every day we choose “a way” by who we associate with. If we spend time with people who are critical and chronic complainers, we will become critical and chronic complainers. If we hang out with those who spend their days in meaningless activities, we will spend our time doing the same.

We don’t need to look for perfect friends. Rather, we should seek to befriend those who are heading in the direction we desire to go. If we listen to people who spend time in Scripture and share their love for it, we will grow to love God’s words more. If we spend time with people who love and respect their spouses, we will move toward loving and respecting our spouse. If we hang out with friends who treat their parents with respect, we will do the same.
