#AdaWisdomChallenge

READ Proverbs 2 (listen). WRITE out one verse and SHARE with someone.

Proverbs 2 is part of the lessons that open the book (Proverbs 1-9). It contains a four-part lesson against wickedness, starting with an exhortation to seek wisdom and ending with path imagery.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs 13:20

Read: Proverbs 13:20

Listen: Proverbs 13

TODAY’S MESSAGE

People probably walked if they wanted to get anywhere in ancient Israel. This would include walking to the market, the temple or the neighboring village. As the primary mode of transportation, people spent a lot of time on their feet walking with someone or a group. It’s not surprising that Solomon uses “walking” as the illustration when he instructs his readers to choose their friends with care.

Watch this video clip below as Pastor Aaron Buer tells us that when we “walk” with “wise” people, there’s a good chance their wise way of living will pull us toward wisdom.

We also place ourselves in danger when we “walk” with “fools,” those who make poor choices and risky decisions. We find we’re joining our pals more frequently for “just a few” after work. We become more comfortable with lying to our parents. We think nothing of sex outside of marriage because, after all, everyone’s doing it.

We can’t deny it—the influence of our friends is often more powerful than the influence of our convictions.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Now is an excellent time to evaluate your friend group seriously. You don’t have to hang with the same group you did four months ago. You can move in a different direction. As you pray, ask your Heavenly Father how you can better “walk with the wise.” Ask for his help in determining who you need to step away from and who you need to step towards in friendship.
