Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer. Proverbs 30:25

Read: Proverbs 30:25

Listen: Proverbs 30

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Picture a father leading his children to an anthill. The kids stoop down to examine the ants scurrying back and forth, back and forth as this father lovingly unpacks a life lesson. He tells them the family will work like ants. When it is time to plow, they will go back and forth, back and forth. When it is time to plant, they will go back and forth, back and forth. When it is time to harvest, they will go back and forth, back and forth. Then, when winter comes, they will have what they need.

And sure enough, when the kids are tired during plowing season, the father reminds them of the ants. He does it again during planting and at the harvest. Soon the kids are finishing his sentences. He’s helped them develop strong habits.

Healthy habits are crucial to success in life. Over and over, the Proverbs challenge us to set good habits. Pastor Jeff Manion encouraged us to rely on good habits for our spiritual, relational, financial and physical health. Habits take time to develop but pay off in the long run.

There are likely habits we need to practice. Maybe there is a habit we have already started that we need to continue. Perhaps there is a habit we once practiced that we need to revive. Or there might just be something we need to begin doing.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

What habit do you need to continue, revive or begin? What can you do to be spiritually, relationally, financially or physically healthy? Once you’ve identified that habit, do it—then do it again and again and again this week. Share your new habit with a trusted friend as a step of accountability.
