TODAY’S MESSAGE
Grace and truth are difficult to blend well. Most of us recognize the importance of both grace and truth but struggle to hold them together at one time. For example, we might be honest with our family at home but frequently dishonest at work. Or we are gracious with co-workers but have little grace at home with our children or spouse. The truth is that most of us find ourselves struggling to balance these well and often handle them differently in different contexts.
According to the passage above, Jesus was full of both grace and truth. He wasn’t half grace then half truth—he was all grace and all truth all the time. He brought grace and truth into every situation.
Our culture struggles with this all the time. We see many examples of grace without truth and truth without grace on social media, at stores and in our own personal conversations. Watch this video clip where Pastor Jeff Manion speaks about the heart of grace and truth in these situations.
If we are to move toward grace and truth, we can’t do it on our own. We need the power of the One who is all grace and all truth. We need to be filled by God’s Spirit. Then like a cup filled up to the brim, we will find ourselves spilling out grace and truth to those all around.
IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY
This week, we have talked a lot about grace and truth. Today take some time to reflect on the state of your own heart. Try to identify one relationship or area where you can grow in grace or grow in truthfulness. Then write down and commit to taking one next step to move your heart.
