TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus’ founding rule for the church is to show love. He tells his followers that people will know they are followers if they show love. John, one of Jesus’ disciples, had his life radically reshaped by receiving the love of Jesus. Other disciples did as well. As the church grew, they began to explore what it means to show love. In the early church leaders’ letters, they write things like build up one another (Romans 4:19), care for one another (1 Corinthians 12:25), be patient with one another (Ephesians 4:2), be kind to one another (Ephesians 4:32) and honor one another above yourself (Romans 12:10). These actions show us how to love each other. These things are decisions—not feelings.

The early church leaders’ instructions are important today. We build others up when we send an encouraging text or social media post. We show care by showing up to funerals or dropping off a meal. We are patient when we don’t demand things happen on our schedule. We are kind by valuing and respecting others even when they don’t have the same opinion. We honor others by thinking about their needs before ours. Jesus-followers should be known for doing these things for each other.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY
