September 16 | What’s a Resolution?

September 16, 2020

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:4-5

Read: Revelation 21:4-5

Listen: Revelation 21

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Most fairy tales end with the familiar words, “And they lived happily ever after.” But fairy tales aren’t real life. People who are suffering only rarely live happily ever after. Often they live in pain and brokenness with life-long scars. That’s why these words near the end of the Bible are so important.

These words tell us God promises to resolve the evil and suffering of the world. We might want to know the why of our pain, but the Bible emphasizes something more. Instead, the emphasis is on a world being restored by the God who is with us.

The proof and pledge of this is the resurrection of Jesus. The resurrection is God’s down payment for the future resurrection of all things. The resurrection guarantees the world to come. It will be a world where God will wipe away all tears and make things new. Where justice will reign, love will win and life will overcome death. It will be the world in which we are meant to live.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Memorize Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Write this on a 3×5 card and place it where you can refer to it frequently. Use it to build your confidence in the assurance of a glorious future to come!
