TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. Revelation 22:17

Listen: Revelation 22

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Some who are critical of Christianity say it is just a wish. They describe it as a human-made solution to a thirst. But some thirsts correspond to real thirst-quenchers. Think of the Grand Rapids Fifth Third Riverbank Run. By the time the runners are at the midway point, they’re experiencing real thirst. It’s a thirst that’s only quenched by water or a sports drink. In the same way, Christianity is the water to the longings of humanity.

In fact, Christianity is the only water for our deepest longings. But that doesn’t mean we won’t try everything else to quench our spiritual thirst. Career achievement, athletic glory and the search for beauty often fill our drinking glass as we try to quench this thirst. We soon discover our thirst is not quenched and that we need something more.

That’s what God offers. It’s the real, life-quenching, satisfying water that’s found only when we place our faith and trust in Jesus. Our longings are real, and Jesus is the answer. “Come,” he says, “and be fully satisfied.”

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Have you tasted the “free gift of the water of life” that Jesus offers? If not, today can be the day your thirst is quenched by believing and receiving Jesus as your Savior. Talk to God using a prayer similar to this one, “God, I know that only through what Jesus on the cross can I be in right relationship with you. I trust him alone for the forgiveness of my sin. I open my heart and life to him.” If you prayed that prayer, let us know at btw@adabible.org. If you are already a Jesus-follower, pray for those today who are taking their first steps toward Jesus.
