October 15, 2020

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons. Mark 3:14-15
Read: Mark 3:13-19

Listen: Mark 3

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus sends out his disciples to preach and have authority over demons in Mark 3:14-15, a sentence with some key words and ideas for us to star. Their message is the same as Jesus’, “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15). They explain that God’s kingdom is one where people are delivered from darkness, healed to serve and where we show “Forgiveness In, Forgiveness Out” (learn more about this in the sermon, The Preview). Using men who don’t have it all together and will often fail, Jesus invites his followers to join his mission.

Jesus still desires to send his followers out. No matter our environment, we’re sent by Jesus to represent his heart and expand the borders of his kingdom. Watch the video clip below as Pastor Aaron Buer reminds us that no matter our environment as a follower of Jesus, we’re sent by him.

We don’t need to have it all together or know all the answers to be sent by Jesus. Jesus hand-picked the disciples, and they certainly didn’t. All that’s needed is a willingness to go and join Jesus in his mission.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Ask yourself the question, “Where am I being sent?” You probably can list one or two places where God is calling you to expand the borders of his kingdom. On the top of page 35 of your journal, write the next step you can take today to move in that direction. Don’t think big picture and long-term. Think right now. Then do it! Share what you experienced the next time you gather with your small group.
