TODAY’S MESSAGE

“Who is Jesus?” and “What does it mean to follow him?” are the two questions Mark had in mind when he wrote his gospel. Both questions directly correlate with how well we manage fear and faith during crises in our lives. This week, we see people in different circumstances learning who Jesus is and how to give him their fears and follow him with trust. Be sure to circle these characters as you read through the passage today on pages 43-45 of your journal.

So who is Jesus? In today’s verses, Jesus goes from crisis to crisis calming storms, driving out demons, healing the sick and raising the dead. He has power over nature, darkness, sickness and death. Jesus shows us he is God and wants us to follow him with total trust as we see him interact with his disciples, a demoniac, an afflicted woman and a dying child.

COVID-19 and current cultural tensions have tipped many of us into crisis. Like those in the passage, we are learning what faith in Jesus looks like. This week, we will see that he is wise, loves us and can be trusted no matter how big or small our faith.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

One of the most powerful prayers you can pray is, “Father God, I don’t like this space I’m in. I don’t want it, and I don’t understand it. But I trust in Jesus to redeem, restore and bring goodness to my situation in ways I may not see.” Pray specifically for your own crisis by writing this prayer on page 50 of your journal.
