TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits. Mark 6:7

Read: Mark 6:6-52

Listen: Mark 6

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus calls the Twelve to him. We see these two important characters to circle on pages 51-53. He has a mission for them. He’s sending them out to represent him and preach the good news of the kingdom. This is why he chose them (Mark 3:14). Their training isn’t complete though. In fact, sending them out is part of their training. He sends them out two by two with instructions on what to do. These are the same guys who just freaked out at Jesus during the storm (Mark 4:38). But Jesus knows what he has in mind for them. He knows what he is preparing them to do when he is gone. For now, learning as they go, he sends them out.

The disciples didn’t have it all figured out. They brought what they had and learned as they went.

Jesus has a mission for us too. As extensions of Jesus, he’s sending us to our neighborhoods, companies, churches, friends, and families to represent him. But too often, we let fear stop us. We don’t have to know everything about Jesus or the Bible. We don’t need to have an answer for every question. Jesus asks us to follow him and learn as we go. It’s a journey where we get to partner with him.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Identify some of the places God is sending you. Where can you represent Jesus to the people around you? Is there some fear that might be holding you back? Write down both the different places you think God is sending you to and some of the fears that might be holding you back on page 57-58 in your journal. Below that, write the simple prayer, “Jesus, I want to follow. Help me learn as I go.”
