Beyond the Weekend

November 6 | The Lesson on Failure

November 6, 2020

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

For they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened. Mark 6:52

Read: Mark 6:45-52

Listen: Mark 6

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The disciples see Jesus healing people, feeding people, calming a storm and raising someone from the dead. But they still don’t get it. We read their hearts were hardened (Mark 6:52). They are in the class of failure. They are supposed to be making connections about who Jesus is, they aren’t getting it, and this won’t be the only time they fail either. The beautiful thing is that despite their failures, Jesus still wants to work with them. He sees their failures, loves them anyway and moves forward with them.

As we travel with Jesus, as we learn from him, we will make mistakes. Even though we won’t always follow perfectly, Jesus doesn’t give up on us. He invites us to keep moving forward.

So we ask the questions again, “Who is Jesus, and what does it mean to follow him?” Jesus is God. The one we can learn from and trust. He’s faithful to us even when we fail.  We follow him when we bring what we have and partner with him, even when we do it imperfectly. We learn as we go.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Thank God for not giving up on you even when you fail. Thank him for inviting you to keep moving forward and following him. Read through the text one more time on pages 51-53, noting the different things you have marked up. Pray and ask God to help you see one main idea in the passage that applies to you this week. Write that on page 53. Then, write a few tangible ways you can respond to what God has shown you.
