TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. Mark 8:25

Read: Mark 7:31-8:26

Listen: Mark 7 an 8

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The healing of the blind man is a process. Jesus touches his eyes twice before the man sees clearly. Obviously, Jesus could heal him with one touch or even a command. But the healing is for more than the blind man. It’s ultimately for the disciples. As Mark tells the story of Jesus, he shows us that the disciples need their eyes opened again and again.

So do we. Time after time, Jesus steps into our struggles and situations. He provides exactly what we need as he shows us who he is and what it’s like to trust him. But it seems like one “lesson” is never enough. Our view of Jesus again becomes blurry, and we begin to waver in our trust. We need another touch from him.

As we read Mark’s story repeatedly, we see it was a process for the disciples to put everything together. It’s a process for us, too. It takes time to develop Jesus’ heart for others and build unwavering trust in him. It’s a complete renovation of our imagination. That’s why we gather every weekend (in person or online), participate in a group and spend time in The Chair. Becoming like Jesus doesn’t happen all at once or even quickly. It’s a life-long process of trusting him.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Review your markings and any notes on pages 67-68 of your journal. On page 69, write what you think is one main idea from the text and how you can respond. As you read through your markings and notes, notice the specific things God is doing to help you see Jesus more clearly.
