TODAY’S MESSAGE

People are seeking Jesus out from afar, and everyone wants something from him. Some want healing. Some hope to witness a miracle. Some desire to truly learn from him. And some just want him dead. Jesus knows the time of his death draws near as he approaches Jerusalem. He urges his disciples one more time to understand what he wants for them. He models the way to true greatness through his humble, willing sacrifice on the cross.

We all want something from Jesus too. We want him to answer our prayers, fix our problems, return life to “normal,” bring physical healing or restore relationships. Jesus invites us to bring those desires to him and then to see what he wants for us. He invites us to trust him in the midst of our needs and follow his example of serving and giving.

For thirteen weeks, we’ve read and studied the Gospel of Mark as a church community. We’ve asked two big questions, “Who is Jesus, and what does it mean to follow him?” As we conclude The Company of Christ, we can continue to grow in our understanding of Jesus and what God wants from us. Jesus renovates our desires and imagination to match his through the power of his Holy Spirit as we submit to his authority.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Review your notes in The Company of Christ journal. Notice how God has changed you and shaped your desires to align with his during this series. On page 100, write a prayer of gratitude for how God is shaping you to be more like Jesus.
