TODAY’S MESSAGE

Many of us are thinking about what changes we want to make in the new year. Maybe it’s the challenge of reading more, exercising consistently, eating better or countless other good things. However, there is nothing more important than surrendering all areas of our lives to God and pursuing him this upcoming year.

This weekend, Pastor Kevin Harney talked about how we can make “seismic shifts” in our lives in the new year. He taught on the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. Jesus takes a meager amount of food (just five loaves of bread and two fish) and multiplies it to feed thousands of people. This story is primarily about the power of Jesus over all things. But it also teaches that when we place small things in the hands of God—he can do big and amazing things.

We can grow in our faith by bringing our “five loaves and two fish” to God in small steps. Little changes make a big difference when they are led by God, infused by the Spirit and continued over time. This week, we’ll consider a few small steps suggested by Pastor Kevin that could be seismic for us. As we do, we’ll be encouraged to surrender all areas of our lives to God and move closer toward him this year.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Open your hands in surrender to God and pray for his help to see what small steps he may be calling you to take this year. Then, as we talk through some potential shifts this week, consider which one God may be drawing you towards. If you find yourself drawn to one of these shifts in particular, check out Pastor Kevin’s book, Seismic Shifts, to help you learn more.
