TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus was teaching and healing through many towns. Matthew 9:37-38 tells us that he pauses and uses an agricultural reference about the harvest to illustrate people’s need to serve God. It’s no accident that immediately after this, Jesus sends his disciples out to share the good news and call people to follow him.

Although none of us walked with Jesus while he was on the earth, we are his disciples too and he has sent us out to share the good news as well. We are sent out to our places of work, families and friends. He has placed us where we are—and often, we are best positioned to reach the people in our lives with the good news of Jesus. May this new year be an opportunity for us to shift our focus on others and remember that we are sent.

Pastor Kevin Harney talked about the impact this shift in our thinking could make in the world. When we turn our attention to people outside the church and without faith in Jesus, we will see the world change as people encounter the living and resurrected Jesus in and through us.
