TODAY’S MESSAGE

As Paul sits in jail, it would be easy for him to start dreaming of a better situation. If only he could be back with his friends in Ephesus. If only he could be traveling with Timothy again. If only he could have his freedom back. He could’ve focused on all the things he didn’t have. He could’ve focused on IT. But instead, we find him finding contentment as he focuses on God.

IT is what we want—what we desire. It can be easy for us to think life will be better if we just get IT. Maybe we say things like we just can’t wait until we’re married, graduate, finally find a house, don’t have to wear masks again, can get back to work, or be recognized for how valuable we are. These aren’t necessarily bad things. But, they will never bring true contentment. When we get IT, the newness of it wears off and we start chasing something else. Contentment isn’t found in an IT but in God. Watch this video clip as Pastor Jeff Manion about how focusing on God provides a sense of freedom regardless of circumstances.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Spend some time thinking about what is the IT you are hoping will change things for you. What are you thinking, “Once that happens, life will be good”? Place that in God’s hands and tell him you want to find contentment in him.
