TODAY’S MESSAGE

Philippians 4:13 is one of the most famous verses in the Bible. Athletes, politicians, CEOs and many others quote this verse. The other verses we’ve been studying this week show us that it’s not about what we get. It’s not about winning a game, getting a promotion or anything else our heart could desire. It’s about being content no matter what. Paul says he can be content because God gives him the strength to do it. This verse is all about that.

Contentment doesn’t magically start happening after we become a Christian. God doesn’t do it for us automatically. But if we place our faith in him and genuinely seek to be content, God helps us make changes in our character to grow in contentment. These changes shift our focus from circumstances to finding true contentment in and through Jesus. The power and presence of Christ can give us the strength to bring our best when the situation around us might be all levels of crazy. Paul writes about that kind of strength.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Reflect on what God has done for you on the cross. Return to one of the worship songs from the weekend service. As you watch and listen to the song Found in You, notice the lyrics, “All we want and all we need is found in you…in your presence, there is freedom, in your presence we are made whole.” As you continually focus on that truth, God will strengthen you to find contentment and freedom regardless of your circumstances.
