TODAY’S MESSAGE

Welcome back to The School of Contentment. This week’s lesson is all about what we have, what we need and what we want. So far in this series, we’ve learned that contentment is not about our circumstances and includes important habits (saving, giving and spending less). We’ve also learned that contentment is threatened by comparison, can be helped by three questions (where is your hope, where do you serve and how do you share) and that everything we have is from God so we should invest in what God’s doing in the world.

Our final lesson is about real wealth. It includes a warning against the desire for wealth and shows us a good way to avoid a lot of regret, grief and pain. This is a difficult lesson for our materialistic culture. Everything around us shouts that stuff and experiences lead to happiness. We’re bombarded by ads as we browse the web, scroll through our social media feed, listen to the radio or drive down the highway. That’s why this week’s lesson is so significant. With God’s help, we can recalibrate how we view what we have, what we need and what we want.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Think back to New Years Day. Where was your level of contentedness? In your journal, write down 2-3 ways your perspective on contentedness has changed during this series.
