John 7

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The psalmist longs for God even in the middle of struggle. He likens his soul longing for God to that of a deer desperately needing water to survive. It was a matter of survival for both —physical survival for the deer, spiritual survival for the writer.

In John 7, Jesus says he is the living water for our longing soul. We search for the water our soul craves in many other places, but only Jesus offers living water. He invites thirsty souls to come to him for spiritual, eternal, life-giving water. But God doesn’t intend for us to be ponds in which this water stagnates. We are to channel this living water to others.

We are to pass on the living water we receive to others. We do this through the power of the Holy Spirit, who takes up residence in us when we place our faith and trust in Jesus (John 14:15-18). By telling others about Jesus and serving those around us, we allow the spiritual life in us to spill over and impact others. Living water is to be shared.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you look forward to the weekend, identify one person who needs the “living water” Jesus offers. It could be someone who does not yet believe or someone you need to serve. Pray for God’s help to see those around that you need to bring this life.
