TODAY’S MESSAGE

Through this series, we’ve seen that The Lord’s Prayer is not a magic formula but a way of looking at prayer. Jesus’s instructions show us the types of things to talk to God about. The prayer’s first half helps us have a right view of our talks with God. We recognize both God’s closeness and greatness. We’re encouraged to pray that our world would be a place where restoration occurs, and we would be on God’s mission. The prayer then shifts toward our lives. Last week, we heard we can bring our deepest needs to God. This week, we see that Jesus includes one of the central concepts of Christianity—forgiveness.

We’re reminded through Jesus’s model prayer that forgiveness is available to us and should also flow through us. Christians should be the first people to admit they need grace and, in turn, be willing to extend grace to those around us. While we may not practice it perfectly, praying for it regularly aligns our hearts with God’s.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

As you pray The Lord’s Prayer today, slow down when you get to today’s verse and admit to God that you do need grace. Be honest and tell God that you mess up. Thank God for forgiving you. Ask God to help you cut others some slack and show them grace because of the grace shown to you.

40 DAYS OF PRAYER

Join us for 40 DAYS OF PRAYER where all of us will find a quiet space and slowly read The Lord’s Prayer. May forty days of praying like Jesus prayed, and desiring what Jesus wanted, make a big difference in our hearts and our communities.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
