TODAY’S MESSAGE
We wrap up the series The Lord and His Prayer this week. A few themes have emerged as we’ve been challenged to read, pray and learn from The Lord’s Prayer. We learned this prayer is not a formula we pray to have the “perfect prayer,” but rather a form of prayer to follow. We discovered how studying and practicing this prayer should affect how we pray, reorder our desires and change the way we live. We also learned the importance of praying for others instead of only praying for ourselves. As a result of this intentional time with The Lord’s Prayer, we should find our prayers and desires have begun to look different and better reflect God’s heart.
This week, we focus on the last lines of this prayer where Jesus teaches his disciples to pray about the temptations they experience. We see how recognizing we are susceptible to temptation and sin should reinforce our trust in God. We’ll also learn what it means for our prayers to request God for outside help against temptation. Jesus’s instructions on prayer serve as a defense against our capacity for self-deception and our longing to satisfy our hunger on our own.
