TODAY’S MESSAGE

Much of Paul’s teaching in Ephesus happens in a lecture hall. He goes there every midday and tells the crowd about the resurrected Messiah, Jesus. But the lecture hall isn’t the only place he goes. The author of Acts tells us he goes “house to house.” In these settings, in front of much smaller gatherings, Paul faithfully spends his time. He gives equal attention to a handful of people in a house and the crowds at the lecture hall. Paul invests in the small things over and over.

Life is often about the small things we too quickly dismiss. Things like showing up every week at small group, memorizing Scripture, faithfully answering a child’s “why?”, arriving at work on time and doing the laundry. We view these tasks and think, “It’s not important. No one cares. No one appreciates it.” But faithfulness in small things matters. They significantly matter to God, and they add up to a life of faithfulness.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Consider the “small things” in your life. There are probably some you either need to start or begin doing again. Ask God for perseverance and joy as you pay attention to the small things. Remember God’s pleasure when you do these things well.
