TODAY’S MESSAGE
Last month we began the 2022 Bible Memory Practice, memorizing one Bible verse a month. Last month Psalm 119:11 taught “hiding” God’s word in our heart can keep us from sin. We recognize we cannot follow God’s word on our own. The Holy Spirit empowers us to grow in obedience and reflect more of Jesus’s character as we memorize Scripture.
This month’s verse reminds us God is the one who does the good work in us. Paul expresses profound thanks to God for how believers in Philippi accepted the Gospel of Jesus and partnered with him in sharing this good news with others. Paul is confident in God’s work of forgiveness through their faith in Jesus and in what God will continue to do in them. He reminds them God will mature them and help them grow “in the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:11). God is faithful to keep doing this work until their lives here on earth end, or Jesus returns.
As we memorize this verse, we can be confident of this same work. If we’ve put our faith and trust in Jesus’s life, death and resurrection, God is doing the good work of salvation in us. He will continue to help us grow more like Jesus through the power of his Holy Spirit living in us until Jesus returns or he takes us home to heaven.
