TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Paul’s life goal is to tell others about the grace of God seen through the good news of Jesus. People need to know that God came to earth and died for them. Paul recognizes the goodness and grace of God, not because of how smoothly his life has gone, but despite the difficulty. Paul’s been through some rough stuff. He’s been beaten, shipwrecked, imprisoned and deserted. Despite all the hardship, Paul focuses on the goodness of God’s grace.

We can have complete confidence in God’s goodness because of the person and work of Jesus. John 3:16 tells us God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only son. The only way to run the race to the finish is never to stop believing in the goodness of God. We can’t let the good news of Jesus stop eliciting awe in our hearts. Being amazed at the goodness of God in Jesus opens our eyes to God’s goodness around us. When we start looking, we see the goodness of God all over creation and through other people even amid difficult circumstances.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Ask God for a fresh vision of his goodness. Use the following prayer as a guide: “Lord, I need to see your goodness again. Awaken me to the beauty that surrounds me. I think I stopped believing in your goodness some time ago. I need to rekindle, restore, renew my belief in your goodness.”
