TODAY’S MESSAGE

Before he returns to heaven, Jesus commands his followers to go and make disciples. His followers obey this command, and the church begins. For thousands of years, believers in Jesus have engaged in each other’s lives to train each other to grow more like Jesus. God designed us to need each other. The Apostle Paul describes the church like a body, with each part playing an important role. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). If one part suffers, we all suffer. If one part rejoices, we all rejoice (see 1 Corinthians 12:26).

Pastor Aaron Buer reminded us this past weekend of the importance of gathering together. We each have a role to play in the body of Christ. As we gather, the Holy Spirit works in and through us. We may never know how God helps someone grow closer to Jesus through the smile we share in the Atrium, an impromptu conversation with a friend, holding a young mother’s baby or the connection we make with a new person sitting near us. As we participate and engage with other Jesus-followers in worship services and a small group community, we join God’s work through his body. Each part matters.
