April 8 | Your Story Isn’t Over

April 8, 2022

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” John 21:16

Read: John 21:15-19
Listen:
John 21

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus predicts his disciples will fall away and scatter, but he also promises a reunion. He says he will rise from the dead and eventually meet them in Galilee (Mark 14:28). Although he knows they will fail him, Jesus will die on the cross for their sin, redeeming and restoring them to the relationship they once had with him. Their failure does not define them and isn’t the end of their story.

None of them are as grateful to Jesus as Peter. In the resurrection story, Jesus clarifies that Peter is forgiven and restored when the angel instructs the women to tell the disciples and Peter Jesus has risen. Jesus lets Peter know his story isn’t over when he meets the disciples in Galilee and tells Peter to “feed my sheep” (share my ministry) three times. Three times for the three times Peter denied him. God still wants to use him.

Failure isn’t final. We can often think God is done with us when we blow it. But that’s not true. If we confess to him our failure, we can experience his forgiveness and return to our relationship with him (1 John 1:9).

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

To experience God’s forgiveness, pray “God I failed you when I____________________________, and I now feel like a failure.  I agree with you. I was wrong, and I ask for your forgiveness. Thank you for forgiving me, and that failure isn’t final. I look forward to the rest of my story.”
