TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus starts a new chapter of God’s story with people. Before his death, he uses bread and wine to illustrate his new covenant. Jesus makes a way for our relationship with God to be restored through his death and resurrection. After Jesus returns to heaven, he sends his Spirit to dwell in those who put their trust in him (Acts 2). God uses this new body of people, the church, to show the world what he is like.

Much of the New Testament of our Bible records the story of the church. Through the Spirit, Jesus-followers encourage and teach each other to live out this new life Jesus offers. Jesus’s restoration impacts every area of life. Church communities reveal to a broken world how to live in restored relationships with each other through families, workplaces, neighbors and friends. The church offers Jesus-followers a community to learn how to love, serve, care for and bear the burdens of others as Jesus did.

We have a new way to live together through Jesus, but we are still in the process of being restored. The relationship with people that God began in the garden and through Israel continues through the new family of Jesus’s believers. We are called to love, serve and give in our local churches, in our communities and take the message of Jesus into the world (Matthew 28:19-20). God gives the church the gifts of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the full Scriptures and the Holy Spirit to fulfill this mission.
