TODAY’S MESSAGE

Timothy, pastor of the church at Ephesus, faces all sorts of pressure and conflict within his congregation. Timothy became a believer through his mother and grandmother, who taught him the Scriptures and raised him to follow Jesus. Seeing his strong faith, Paul chose Timothy as a protégé and traveling companion. But now, Paul has assigned him to pastor a church of new believers who bicker and fight, don’t respect his young age and are drawn toward false teaching.

Paul writes two letters to encourage Timothy to endure the disappointment, danger and loneliness he faces. This week, we look at a section from Paul’s second letter to Timothy from prison. Paul faces certain death making this his last chance to build up and strengthen his dear friend Timothy to not give up. He reminds Timothy how vital Scripture is to his life and ministry—and how it fully equips him with all he needs to stay the course.

Like Timothy, we may want to bail because of disappointments and difficulties too. But the Bible contains everything we need to endure. It equips us for a full life, able to deal with difficulties and help the people we are caring for.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

This week, commit to engage or reengage with the Bible. A good option is to read one or two chapters a day of Luke and Acts. Luke is the story of Jesus, and Acts is the companion story of the early church.
