TODAY’S MESSAGE

Americans headed west to find good farmland in the 1800s. Leaving with a wagon not fully equipped for the journey meant you wouldn’t make it to your destination. It could even cause death. No one wants to start a trip and find out they aren’t fully equipped.

Because of all the bickering and assaults from false teaching in the Ephesian church, Timothy probably thought he was ill-equipped to lead. Paul wisely reminds him, “continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus,” (2 Timothy 3:14-15). Scripture has everything Timothy needs to reach the destination of an effective pastor. Timothy is equipped.

We too can be equipped through the Bible to do the good work God has called us to do as parents, students, employers, employees, etc. But we need to read, learn and absorb Scripture to be equipped. Our church encourages learning the Bible through The Row (attending weekend services), The Circle (joining a small group Bible study) and The Chair (personal time with God reading and memorizing Scripture).

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

If you aren’t already doing so, commit to making The Row, The Circle and The Chair a regular part of your routine. Pick a campus close to you for a service in person or watch online. Find a small group right for you at adabible.org/smallgroup. Enhance your Chair Time memorizing Scripture with the May memory verse Matthew 22:37–39.

2022 BIBLE MEMORY PRACTICE

Develop spiritual roots and tap in the power of God’s word by memorizing monthly a Bible verse! View previous verses at beyondtheweekend.org/biblememorypractice.

MATTHEW 22:37-39
Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
