I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. Luke1:3b-4

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Luke writes Theophilus (and others) to have certainty of what they had been taught. Many people probably questioned who Jesus was, what he taught and why it mattered. Luke doesn’t shame Theophilus or anyone for having questions or doubts. Instead, Luke takes the time to research and then writes an orderly account to provide clarity and certainty.
Doubt is something we still face today. Guest Pastor John Dickson shared that there are three different types of doubt. There are intellectual doubts which arise from challenging arguments we might hear from a friend, article or documentary that we don’t initially know how to answer. There are moral doubts which occur when the way we want to live is in contrast with the pages of Scripture. Often we doubt the Bible rather than doubt our own sinful motives. There is also psychological doubt which arises from the amount that rides on the decision. It’s the same impulse that makes us nervous when we make a big purchase, start a new job or get married.
Working through our doubts can help us develop a deeper trust in God’s words. This week, we will see we can trust the Bible more when we get to know the Bible. We will look into some intellectual reasons for trusting the Bible, and we will see that the Bible was not written by or for the political or social elite. May our gracious God develop in us a deeper trust for his word this week.

Pray to God, asking him to help you trust the Bible more. Share with him the areas you struggle to trust him and invite him to help you with those areas this week.
