TODAY’S MESSAGE

Today we continue our 2022 Bible Memory Practice. So far, we’ve memorized verses that help us understand the power of God’s Word (Psalm 119:11), trust God’s promise to continue the work in us until Christ returns (Philippians 1:6), see how God desires to shape our character to be more like Jesus through the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), know God’s ability to take everything in life and use it for good (Romans 8:28), and God’s desire we love him and our neighbors (Matthew 22:37-39). This month, we see the power of coming to God in prayer in every situation.

Our memory verse comes from a letter the Apostle Paul wrote to a young church in the city of Philippi. These new Jesus-followers lived in a city and culture hostile to their faith. Many may have lost their businesses, friends and families for following Jesus. Paul urges them to turn to God in every anxiety. In each situation, they can present their requests to God with a heart of thanksgiving for what Jesus has done for them. Paul reminds them even in their pain, God can bring a peace that makes no human sense to guard their hearts and minds.

This promise stands true for us. When anxieties threaten to overwhelm us, God invites us to turn to him and bring every concern. We can rest in the promise of his peace and protection over our hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Begin to memorize Philippians 4:5b-7. Try writing each sentence on a different sticky note and then post them throughout your home and vehicle. When you see the sticky note, try to recall the rest of the passage.
