TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. John 21:12

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus seems to spend a lot of time eating with people. It’s almost like it is one of his strategic tools. His first miracle is at a wedding meal. During the final week of his life, he gathers his disciples for a meal. In the years between, most of the time—he’s at a meal, going to a meal or leaving a meal. He eats with both the people society thought were important and that society rejected. These meals allowed Jesus to teach, talk, challenge and befriend people over food. That’s precisely what we see in the story this week. Jesus gently calls his disciples to come have breakfast with him on the shore.

Jesus’s invitation to his disciples helps us understand who Jesus is. He’s the type of person who wants us with him, even if we feel unimportant or rejected by those around us. It’s not like the disciples had been good friends. They’d abandoned Jesus in his time of greatest need. Yet, Jesus still invites them. He still invites us. It doesn’t matter what we’ve done. That thing we think is too bad—it isn’t. Jesus wants us. There’s room at his table for us. There’s room at his table for you, and Jesus is inviting you.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Thank Jesus for his invitation and accept it. Worship him with the Ada Bible Worship team through the song, “Mighty to Save.” The following lyrics remind us of God’s invitation no matter what we’ve done, “So take me as You find me. All my fears and failures, fill my life again. I give my life to follow, everything I believe in. And now I surrender.”
