TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 17:24

Read: Matthew 7:24-27
Listen:
Matthew 7

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Trusting God requires us to do several things that better help us know him and how he works. These can include reading and studying his Word, quietly contemplating what we read and conversing with him in prayer and praise. Reading and studying the Bible are essential if we desire to grow strong in our faith. We cannot leave our Bible on the shelf and expect to grow spiritually.

Like any other activity, there are some Bible reading and study tips that help us best understand what God is trying to communicate. One tip is to pay attention when words or ideas are repeated. Repetition means that this is important and can give us insight into what God is trying to teach us. The cross-references in your Bible can often point you to other places in the Bible where a word or phrase is used.

Many good study Bibles are also a good resource to learn a tip like this. We recommend the NIV Study Bible (buy GR local or online) and ESV Study Bible (buy GR local or online). Both can help you better understand what God is communicating in his Word.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Practice using these three tips in Matthew 6:25-34. Use the cross-references in your Bible to find where words or ideas are repeated or contrasted. Enjoy your study!

JEREMIAH 31:33

“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
