Mark 4

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus teaches by a lake, and a large crowd gathers. So large that he goes out in a boat and speaks from the water so that all can hear him. In this important teaching, Jesus uses parables. Jesus consistently taught with parables or stories with a message.

On this day, Jesus tells parables about the Kingdom of God and what it is like to live in it. The Kingdom of God is a phrase to mean anywhere in the world God reigns and Jesus is King. In the Kingdom of God—people find true life, healing and wholeness.

Understanding the Kingdom of God and how to live in it is not easy. Jesus’s told three parables to help his disciples and listeners understand him—and they STILL struggled. This week we look at these parables to learn about the true and healing life God offers. We see that God doesn’t simply call us to believe and wait but instead to believe and participate. But first, we need to ask ourselves whether we really want this true life that Jesus offers.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Ask yourself if you want the true life that Jesus offers and if you have decided to follow him. If you want to follow Jesus and experience true life, then pray something like this today. “God, thank you for giving your son, Jesus, to die for me and my sins. I give my life to you and want to experience the true life that comes in following you. Help me to follow you. Amen.”
