TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

He also said, “This is what the Kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.” Mark 4:26-27

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Jesus’s next parable is about seeds. Similar to the parable about four soils, this has a slightly different teaching purpose. This time, it’s about us (the farmer) partnering with God (the one who causes growth) to spread his Word (the seed) throughout the world. In short, Jesus invites his audience to share the good news and watch how God causes growth.

This teaching is not something reserved for the first crowds of Jesus’s parable. God calls us to scatter seed and share the good news of Jesus Christ with the world. There are many ways that we do this today. This might mean serving the kids or students of our church and pointing them to Jesus during particularly formative seasons of life. It might mean leading a small group of men, women, couples, singles or young adults to help them take steps in their faith. It might mean building relationships with your neighbors, coworkers or community to point them to the love of Jesus as you serve.

Watch this video clip as Pastor Aaron Buer reminds us that we have a job and God has a job when it comes to sharing the good news. We are called to do our part to spread the seeds, but God brings the growth. So, when we spread seeds and people respond—let us celebrate that God is at work and used us. When we spread seeds and people don’t seem to respond, let us remember that God is at work even when we can’t see it.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Check out adabible.org/next-steps. Consider whether God may be calling you to scatter seeds through one of our next steps. It might mean serving inside or outside of the church. It might mean getting baptized and sharing your story of how Jesus got ahold of your heart. Maybe God is calling you to one of the other steps on there. Use this time to consider how God may be calling you to scatter seeds today.

JEREMIAH 31:33

“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
