TODAY’S MESSAGE

After their interaction with Jesus, the men on the road hustle back to Jerusalem. As they tell the other disciples about what happened, Jesus shows up in the room. Jesus walks the whole group through the story of the Bible and how it all points to him. Then he helps them see their part. They are to tell the world about Jesus’s defeat of death and offer of life. They are witnesses to what happened with Jesus. A witness is someone who has experienced something and shares it. As witnesses, their job is to share the good news of Jesus with those they interact with.

Those who have put their faith in Jesus are witnesses as well. We may not have been there for the crucifixion or talked with Jesus in Jerusalem after his resurrection. But, we have experienced the forgiveness of sins and the life Jesus offers. We can share the accounts of the early witnesses recorded in the first four books of the New Testament. We can share about our experience with God. That’s the job Jesus gave to his first followers in Jerusalem. It’s also the job we see given to all the Jesus communities (churches) in the rest of the New Testament.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Identify someone you need to share the love of Jesus with. Ask God to help you see an opportunity to share and have the courage to do it. One great way is to invite them to join you for church. This weekend we start a new series on the church, which is an excellent time for someone new to jump in.
