1 Corinthians 12

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Paul uses tender words to remind believers they have value in God’s body. He repeatedly shares that God chooses their gifts. He places each one “just as he wanted them to be” (1 Corinthians 12:18). Paul reveals the compassionate heart of God, who has a purpose and place for each member of his body. The gifts, experiences and backgrounds of each member are not an accident. He has an assignment for each to do what he desires in the world to draw others to himself and his church.

The church needs each gift to function correctly. Countless gifts help others draw into a relationship with God and his church. Some serve by mowing the lawn, weeding or planting flowers to create a pleasing welcome. Others clean rooms throughout the week, so children have safe and clean spaces for learning about God. Greeters, ushers and coffee bar hosts welcome and bring comfort as people enter the building to hear about Jesus. Many hold babies, teach Bible stories and lead children’s small groups so young hearts can grow in faith while their parents grow too. Others run cameras, lights, sound, set up chairs and take them down… and that’s not even close to everything! Watch this video clip as Pastor Jeff Manion reminds us that God has us here for a reason. As we give ourselves to ordinary, humble service—we trust God to work the extraordinary.
