TODAY’S MESSAGE

Today we continue our 2022 Bible Memory Practice. So far, we’ve memorized verses to remind us of important truths. We’ve learned the power of God’s Word (Psalm 119:11). We’ve seen God’s promise and desire to help us to grow more like Jesus by loving him and our neighbors (Philippians 1:6, Galatians 5:22-23, Matthew 22:37-39). We’ve been encouraged to come to God in every situation (Romans 8:28) and trust God will make our paths straight when we trust him with all our heart (Proverbs 3:5–6).

This month’s verse deals with our words. The book of James is known for its blunt and clear style, but also for the practical and wise advice to its readers. We could avoid many misunderstandings and miscommunications if we followed the advice of these verses. May we and our church community be known for being quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.

We’ve provided tips each week to help you memorize verses. One is to engage multiple senses in the process of memorizing. Write it out at the same time as saying the verse out loud. Listen to the Bible app while reading along. Add movement by going for a walk while practicing. Engaging more of our senses can help the verse to take root.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Begin to memorize James 1:19-20 and review the verses you have already learned. Consider how you can bring more than one sense into the process to help root the words into your mind and heart.
