TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel. Daniel 1:9

Read: Daniel 1:8-17
Listen:
Daniel 1

TODAY’S MESSAGE

With all the negative things happening to the Israelites, it would’ve been natural for them to wonder where God was. However, it’s interesting that in Daniel 1 we see God directly moving in the story three times. In Daniel 1:2, the Bible tells us God delivers Jehoiakim into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar. In Daniel 1:9, God causes the official to show favor toward Daniel. In Daniel 1:17, God gives these young men knowledge and skill to learn as they needed. Despite feeling God was gone— God was at work in, around and through this tragedy.

When we face difficult things in life, it can be easy for us to wonder if God is gone too. But seeing God at work in this incredible tragedy in Daniel gives us the confidence he is at work in, around and through the things we also face. God is at work—even when we don’t see it.

It’s easy to miss what God is doing when we’re in a challenging season. But often, we see it more clearly when we look back. Maybe we developed a deeper reliance on God during a financial shortage. Perhaps we recognize how much God developed our character. Don’t be surprised if God prompts us to use what we went through to encourage someone else going through it too. We may not always see what God is doing in the moment—but God is at work even when we can’t see it.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Think back to times when you recognize God working through previous difficult seasons in your life. Journal about how he has proven himself faithful to you in the past. Then thank him for being there for you now and always.
