TODAY’S MESSAGE

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego haven’t had it easy. God allowed Israel to be defeated by Babylon and taken into captivity because they disobeyed him and worshiped idols for many generations. These three men were taken at a young age from their Jewish families to serve in the King’s court and forced to learn a new language, history and culture. They have already paid dearly for the disobedience of their nation. Yet they are again faced with paying the price—this time for obeying God in a culture hostile to their faith.

We tend to think we are entitled to a life free from trouble if we do the right thing. But we live in a world with forces opposed to God and our allegiance to God. Sometimes, doing what is right can get us in trouble with our neighbors, relatives, coworkers and sometimes our friends. Following God is costly but worth it. Just like what happened with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, doing what’s right allows God to show himself through us and draws unbelievers into believing. God also grows our faith and rewards our obedience. Watch this video clip as Pastor Jeff Manion shares what paying the price can look like and how God is glorified.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Think about what obedience looks like. Our memory verse for October (Micah 6:8) says God requires us to give justice when it isn’t popular, show mercy to those who don’t deserve it and be humble before God even when we don’t feel like trusting him. Obeying God may get us in trouble, but our obedience glorifies God.
