TODAY’S MESSAGE

Nebuchadnezzar looks around Babylon and says, “I did this.” He takes full credit for the empire and city. He’s full of pride, and it will catch up with him. He ends up completely humbled, grazing like cattle on the grass. Nebuchadnezzar’s response to what he has accomplished significantly contrasts with Daniel’s response throughout the book. Nebuchadnezzar turns to pride. Daniel sees God as the giver and remains humble. Daniel’s humility is evident in how he reveals Nebuchadnezzar’s first dream (Daniel 2:27-28).

It can be easy to be prideful. However, one danger of pride is that it often leads to a fall. We can be too proud to admit we are on the edge of an addiction, so we don’t give ourselves a chance to get clean. We can be too proud to tell anyone our marriage is on the rocks, so the tension in the house keeps rising. We can be too proud to say we are part of the problem, so we find ourselves without a job. We can be too proud to ask for help on our schoolwork, so we keep falling further behind. Pride can quickly lead to a fall because it stops us from turning to God or others.

MATTHEW 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
