TODAY’S MESSAGE

Belshazzar knew all the stories of his ancestor Nebuchadnezzar and how God had given him great power and success but had also humbled him to the place of eating grass when he failed to honor God’s name (Daniel 4). Yet despite knowing all the history, Belshazzar fails to humble himself and disregards the warnings from the past. He doesn’t care and thinks he can do whatever he wants. Then a hand appears on a wall and writes a severe warning. The King calls for Daniel. Daniel reminds him that although the King knew better, he still set himself up against the Lord of heaven. Throughout the book of Daniel, God gives success and humbles those who don’t honor him for who God is and what God has done for them. This same pattern brings ultimate destruction to Belshazzar, and he loses his kingdom to another nation.

We ignore certain warnings too. We see how our parent’s alcohol use drove a wedge in the family. We recognize how unforgiveness and resulting bitterness wrecked a neighbor’s family. We understand how pornography blew up a friend’s marriage. We know God’s warnings about money and making it an idol. We can easily think these things don’t apply to us. Yet God’s truth does matter, and we are to honor him in every aspect of our lives. We can turn to him today and ask for his help and forgiveness to live his way in every relationship, choice and thought.

MATTHEW 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
