TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Daniel 6:10

Daniel 6

TODAY’S MESSAGE

The administrators and satraps plot to trap Daniel by convincing the king to execute anyone who prays to someone other than the king himself. Daniel hears the decree is published and simply goes home to pray just like he always had. He is much more concerned with God’s honor than his own position, authority or honor. He continues to pray three times each day, just like always.

We can find ourselves in situations today where we may have to choose between our own honor and God’s honor. It might be choosing between career advancement and honoring God by working with integrity. Maybe a coworker or friend says hurtful and untrue things about us, and we fight the temptation to respond by destroying their reputation. Watch this video clip as Pastor Aaron Buer tells us that it isn’t just the big moments that matter—but also the seemingly small and insignificant moments where we have to choose between our honor or God’s honor.

Daniel’s reaction has a lot to teach us when we find ourselves in these situations. He doesn’t respond just to make a point. He doesn’t try to cause an issue or bring himself attention. He just lives a life that honors God and accepts the consequences if they come. He chooses God’s honor over his own. When we too face challenging situations, may we find gracious ways to bring honor to God.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Consider where you might be more concerned with your own honor than with God’s. Share this with God in prayer asking for forgiveness and help. Forgiveness for where you may be more focused on yourself than on God’s honor—and help in navigating adversity in a way that points to God.

MATTHEW 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
