TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

No one should appear before the LORD empty-handed: Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you. Deuteronomy 16:16b-17

Read: Deuteronomy 16:16-17
Listen:
Deuteronomy 16

TODAY’S MESSAGE

As the Israelites give thanks, God also tells them to bring a gift. As God gives this instruction, God specifically says that everyone is to participate by bringing a gift in proportion to how God has blessed them. When the crop is not as plentiful in a particular year, the gift is to be smaller. If the harvest is abundant, so should be the gift. Everyone is to be giving something at every feast.
We’re to do the same. We’re always to be giving something in proportion to how God is blessing us

We’re to do the same. Watch this video clip as Pastor Jeff Manion uses his life as an example that we’re always to be giving something to our church family in proportion to how God is blessing us. When sales are off the chart or we get a bonus, our giving to God is to reflect this. But our gift will be smaller in times of reduced earnings or hard seasons. God does not ask each person to give the same or the same percentage. In fact, often the most significant gifts we give are the small ones when we’re struggling.

As we give, we recognize we’re never making the first move. Our giving models the generosity of God in Jesus Christ, who has “given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him…” (2 Peter 1:3). God loves a cheerful giver because God is a cheerful giver.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Give yourself a quick check-up on your giving. If it’s been some time since you’ve reviewed your generosity, take a few minutes to see if it is proportional to God’s blessings in your life. Then take whatever steps you need to move in that direction.

MATTHEW 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
