Romans 12

TODAY’S MESSAGE

We’ve been memorizing one verse a month throughout 2022 to grow spiritually and develop the character of Jesus. This month’s verse is Romans 12:10. The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Romans to the early Jesus-followers in Rome. Life wasn’t easy for them. They come from different religious contexts and need help knowing how God created them to live. Paul gives some straightforward advice about how to love and live in a way that is pleasing to God. This follows Paul’s writing about serving and how to use one’s gifts to build up the church community. Paul challenges his readers to be devoted to and honor one another above themselves.

These words are just as helpful today. It’s pretty easy to focus on ourselves. We get caught up in how situations impact us, what people think of us or how we want things to go. Yet, Paul reframes that way of thinking so we can develop the servant heart of Christ. It’s a way of living that doesn’t need recognition or our own way. Instead, it’s a character that loves and honors others even above ourselves. May this verse encourage us to grow in humility and love for one another this month.

IN YOUR CHAIR TIME TODAY

Begin memorizing Romans 12:10. One fun way to memorize something could involve a whiteboard or a mirror. Write out the verse on the whiteboard or mirror somewhere you will see it daily. Then remove one word each day as you learn to repeat it from memory.
